July 5,6 1300 Miles!

Left Quincey with a hitch back to the trail from Nathan and Stacey, stopped off in Belden to get our resupplies at the smallest post office I have ever been in. Barbara, a volunteer, helped us send forward excess items, warned us about the resident pesty bear Billy and drove us to the store/restaurant. Hiker Rubs would later tell us about an close encounter he had with Billy.

Thanks Barb!

We met section hiker Katie at the campsite that Billy Bear frequents so we stopped to warn her of the possibility. We joined her for dinner and made our new menu of tortillas with cheese with salsa that we cooked on the fire on a piece of tin we found at another campsite. It worked out perfectly and was delicious! Katie is a PCTA kick- off volunteer. Thanks Katie for all you do for fellow hikers. We told her she would be hearing from us next year as we hoped to give back at the 2013 KO.

On July 6 we passed another milestone

We leapfrogged with Running Wolf and Backwoods most of the day. The weather was dry and hotter than I like it but at least it wasn't raining. We are hiking 22 plus miles a day making good time.
Running Wolf is a physical therapist and he did some therapy on my knee which really helped alleviate the pain.

Rattlebee joined us at our campsite for the night. I had not seen him since the kick-off and was sorry to hear his hiking partner Speedbump was off trail due to a broken rib and two other partners he hiked with also had to get off trail due to injuries. Too fast to hike with us we assured him he'd find a partner soon as the head of the heard is all around us. We made our tortillas again and enjoyed our visit with Rattlebee.
